Terms of Use

As part of efforts to encourage adoption of provenance technology, we provide the provenance services on this website freely to the community. In order to gain an understanding of provenance in the wild and to improve the services, we collect statistics and digest about the provenance data submitted to our services by the users, referred to as Collected Data.

What do we store

With this service, you can [validate/analyse] PROV representations, [translate] them into other representations, [normalize/process] them, or [expand] provenance templates. This service does not store the PROV representations that you submit, but it collects and stores the following information (referred to as Collected Data):

  • Web access log, including user preferences when choosing a specific PROV representation or narrative.
  • Web feedback provided to gather user feedback, bug reports, and preferences.
  • Metrics of provenance data posted to the services (e.g. size, statistics and topology measures) inspired by doi: 10.1007/s10618-017-0549-3, 10.1109/TSE.2017.2659745 and https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.0625.
  • Validation and metrics reports that describe whether submitted provenance is invalid, incomplete or incorrect, as well as the frequency of provenance patterns/anti-patterns.
  • Digest of provenance data posted to the services (e.g. signature of provenance and timestamps).
  • Anonymous summaries of provenance data, inspired by doi: 10.4204/EPTCS.181.9 and https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.06251.

Furthermore, we note that:

  • Some provenance data will be cached temporarily for the duration of a user session to improve the responsiveness and usability of the services and will be deleted within one hour.

  • I understand that confidentiality and anonymity will be maintained, and it will not be possible to identify me in any research outputs.
  • I understand that the information we capture is anonymous and we will not seek to try and identify users from IP addresses; given this, we provide no mechanism by which the Collected Data can be erased.
  • I consent that the research team may use my Collected Data for future research and understand that they may publish some Collected Data (which always remain anonymous).
